Dear Members and Friends of the MSLA,
We are delighted to announce a new phase in the development of the MSLA.
The MSLA was incepted back in October 2010 as an organisation managed by MSLs for MSLs, creating a community to connect and grow. Together, we have created a vibrant network, shared invaluable insights, and fostered a spirit of collaboration.
As the MSL role has transformed over time, and become established in many life science organisations, the MSLA have found ourselves supporting capability building, training and career development. Whilst this has been a natural evolution, as volunteers with limited resources, we know there are organisations better suited to fulfill this role.
With this in mind the MSLA will be entering into a partnership with the Life Sciences Access Academy (LSAA). This collaboration will provide our members access to the LSAA’s valuable resources, including regular educational webinars, bespoke training and, of course, the annual Conference.
An expanded (and truly representative) MSLA committee will sit on a steering group, creating and planning future content and events. LSAA will be looking to continue to expand its scope and reach – it will continue to be a member led organisation for academics, aspiring MSL’s, leaders of tomorrow and those MSL’s who have done so much to enhance patient outcomes and the reputation of the industry within the UK, and beyond!
MSLA membership will be free to all for the first year and pro bono for those companies who subscribe to LSAA (over 90% of UK pharma), pro bono for aspiring MSL’s and those in Academia and the NHS thereafter; in so doing reducing the financial and bureaucratic burden on the MSLA, and its members.
Therefore, we believe this offers enhanced value to our members, to better support your professional development and connection with others in the industry. Life Science Access Academy is the UK’s leading training platform for the Life Science sector. This exciting collaboration marks a significant milestone in their mission to enhance support for MSLs across the UK. LSAA’s expertise in the life sciences sector will ensure that the high standards set by MSLA will not only be maintained, but further elevated. Our shared goal remains to provide a thriving community for MSLs, offering top-tier professional development and networking opportunities.
Many of you will have already have access via your current employer and therefore be familiar.
While the MSLA has been a foundational platform for many of us, we now encourage you to take advantage of the resources offered by the LSAA and to stay engaged with the broader field medical community.
Next steps.
The transfer will occur on Monday 16th Dec. 2024. If you are an existing member then no action is necessary; post the transfer LSAA will write to all members inviting all members to a live webinar (which will be recorded) during which we will answer all questions and outline plans for 2025,
We will also cover off how you can join the steering committee, outline the “blended” training and development plans for 2025 as well as how we aim to enhance the “community feel” of the MSLA and enhance members career development. This new phase in MSLA’s journey will bring innovation and expanded services to meet the evolving needs of the MSL community, all while keeping the core values of MSLA intact.
We are excited about the future and the potential this partnership holds. Together, MSLA and LSAA will continue to support and empower MSLs to excel in their critical roles within the life sciences sector. We also look forward to working with you through this transition and will ensure that all members have access to the resources and support they need

Social & Corporate Responsibility
As part of it’s Social & Corporate responsibility, The MSLA has decided to offer support to The Friends of the Orphanage of Hearts, Burundi. This support was originally agreed at the MSLA 2014 AGM and again at the MSLA 2015 AGM. The support is financial; currently a one-time single financial donation in any given year.
Also, as part of the MSLA 2019 conference, we supported Ian Lee-Bennett’s chosen charity, Bamboozle Theatre Company, who create theatre experiences for disabled children. You can read more about this charity here.
